Surgical success depends on many factors, starting from the knowledge and skills of the surgeon. Gaining this experience is a never-ending process and can become a challenge especially as new technology is developed, requiring more information and skills to implement.

With regards to MIGS procedures, anatomy is key. As far as physiologic drainage pathways are concerned, MIGS implants must bypass the trabecular meshwork (TM) to allow drainage of aqueous from the anterior chamber into Schlemm’s canal (SC). An interesting element of SC is that it is not a smooth, simple, tubular passage as the name seems to imply.
