IOLs for managing presbyopia try to achieve a balance between increasing the range of vision, with the goal of spectacle independence, and reducing visual phenomena associated with the various optical designs. Some surgeons think patients may benefit through custom matching IOL technologies. Recently, Alcon Medical Affairs convened a panel of experts to discuss the real-world performance of contralateral implantations—pairing a trifocal IOL with a nondiffractive extended-depth-of-focus IOL built upon the same biomaterial platform.
