Factors Affecting Endothelial Cell Density in Ophthalmic Procedures: Summary of Clinical Evidence and Hydrus Microstent Trials

Executive Summary and Table of Contents

Endothelial cell density (ECD) is an important parameter in evaluating corneal health and is influenced by a multitude of factors. In clinical studies involving minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), ECD is usually reported as a part of adverse event monitoring rather than as a primary or secondary endpoint. Because of this, these studies often do not account for or control the various confounding factors that can impact ECD measurements. ECD data from MIGS trials should be interpreted in the context of the limitations inherent in study design and the multifactorial nature of ECD variability.
